To most Huawei is best known for their smartphones and rightfully so! It is no secret that I am in love with their P-series flagship the P40 Pro but did you know that Huawei also excels in making other types of devices and technologies like laptops, wearables, earbuds and even a sophisticated router to support the latest wireless standard (1) From smartphone maker to electronic giant (2) today, I want to explore the “other end” of the Huawei brand- one that is more than just a company that “makes very good phone cameras, very good phone processors, and very good phones in general” (3)
Of course, we can’t talk about Huawei without first mentioning their smartphones because that is the foundation of the brand. I have already written tons about the P40 Pro so you can always check out my other blog posting on how to use their AppGallery and Petal Search Engine to download apps, my review on the camera and the phone in general and some of the editing capabilities of the camera itself. All in all, what I can say is that Huawei is best known to deliver devices that perform extremely well and leaves little off the spec sheets (4); so you can be assured that their other products are going to offer the same breakthrough performance like their P series smartphones.
Huawei MateBook 13: A Reliable Companion
Like the P40 Pro, I have already written an extensive review about my initial impression of the Matebook 13 for back to school, so I am not going to explain too much about the specs and features of the laptop again. However, what I like to point out is that I love this laptop more every day and Huawei really did a great job in creating a highly-desirable laptop with the kind of sensibility that anyone would want from a luxury yet affordable device that packs some serious performance (5).
There are many qualities I love about the Matebook 13 but I think my top 3 notable features that I adore about this flagship laptop is first how easy it is to travel with because it is so thin (measuring 14.9 mm or 0.59 inches) and so lightweight (weighing merely just 2.87 pounds or 1.3kg) making it so convenient to put in my tote bag to bring to meetings, when traveling around town and even just carrying around the house. This exceptionally portable laptop also brings incredible visuals performance despite its 3:2 ratio screen and the compactness and smaller size does not at all take away from the borderless immersive experience for everyday work, videos and even gaming. Lastly, if you are a tech geek I want to draw attention to its performance and how impressive it is to fit in a full-fat intel mobile processor and dedicated graphic chip (6) and not to mention a very long-lasting battery, amazing keyboard and touch screen that makes my life so much better.
Now we finally come to some of their more recent products launched in Canada this year – mainly wearables and audio that I have yet to introduce on my blog. I actually had a zoom presentation where we got to find out more in-depth about the science and engineer behind each launch and how Huawei does not take shortcuts and builds their devices from the ground up which was very fascinating to learn.
“The world’s first intelligent dynamic noise-cancelling earphones and the world’s first smart dual-antenna Bluetooth earphones”
Huawei FreeBuds Pro: Cancel the Noise and Stay Stylish
HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro is this year’s flagship audio launch and further establishes Huawei’s as a pioneer and innovator in the True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earphones field. Huawei’s latest venture into the premium bud space (7) delivers exquisite design and craftsmanship, freedom from wires, excellent sound quality, and long-lasting comfort along with an innovative, and has a special form of active noise cancellation technology which is sure to delight any consumer.
The Design Focuses on Both Style and Comfort
The Freebuds Pro comes in 3 chic colour variations to match your aesthetics with the sounds you love! I received mine in a sleek and edgy Silver Frost colour which actually looks more like a graphite dark grey with a subtle metallic shine. The earbuds also come in a classic Ceramic White and a sophisticated Carbon Black. I have to say Huawei wins here in both the sound cancellation and aesthetics department because when I first opened these earbuds I was blown away by its beauty and how stunning and eye-catching it is when you wear it.
What is so wonderful about these earbuds is that it features a unique in-ear design that comes with three varying sizes of silicone earplugs. This combines with a fit detection feature – available in the HUAWEI AI Life app which I will talk about in a bit– allows users to find the perfect fit. To achieve this, Huawei Audio Lab collected and analyzed ear canal data from over 1,000 real users around the world.
Additionally, the new HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro’s distinctive square-shaped stem is sleek and stylish; all while minimizing external noise and housing vital technical components. The wind-proof design eliminates sound pickup holes to mitigate wind noise interference. This means users could avoid being affected by outside noise, even when walking, running, or cycling. What’s more, users can effortlessly enable active noise cancellation, adjust the volume, answer calls, press play and skip songs using the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro earphone stems. The gestures are highly intuitive – simply swipe or pinch a specific area to take control. HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro can accurately detect users’ operating habits to minimize false touches.
Intelligent and Dynamic
Adopting the Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation Technology, it cuts down the noise from the inside out allowing you to experience the tranquility you desire. Enhancing this further, the dual microphones positioned inside and outside the earbuds can quickly identify your surrounding noise environment and automatically switch between three noise cancellation modes – Ultra Mode, Cozy Mode and General Mode – to effectively cut out environmental noise.
Whether the user is at home, going for a walk or in a busy train station, HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro intelligently senses their environment and improves the noise-canceling experience. With active noise cancellation enabled, the battery lasts up to 4.5 hours; without noise cancellation enabled, the battery lasts a whole 7 hours without needing to charge with the included charging case. Simply pinch the earbuds’ stem to control the noise cancellation on or off.
In addition, HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro is the world’s first smart dual-antenna Bluetooth earphones meaning each earphone is equipped with two Bluetooth antennas that offer 360° omnidirectional Bluetooth signal coverage for a more stable connection.
Huawei AI Life App
The last element I want to speak about in regards to the Freebuds Pro is the AI life App where it helps you to get the most out of your new HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro! With the AI Life App and with just a few taps in the App, you can choose from different noise control modes, discover the perfect fitting tips for your ears, track the location of your earbuds, plus many more exclusive features that comes in so handy.
*You can download the app in the Huawei AppGallery or through the Petal Search Engine.
HUAWEI WATCH FIT: The Workout Star and Perfect All-Day Companion
The HUAWEI WATCH FIT is a hybrid of Huawei’s latest attempt to merge a fitness tracker and a smartwatch together (8) and that resulted in a device built for fitness lovers that serve 24/7 activity tracking. It includes 96 workout modes to help keep you motivated and inspired – with 12 built-in fitness courses, SpO2 monitoring & heart rate sensor and many of the features that you’ll find packed into smartwatches these days (9). With functions like find your phone, notification from Instagram (but you won’t be able to respond), weather report, stress report, sleep monitoring and can even track your period cycle, this watch is really great for everyone. The look and fit are especially perfect for the ladies!
The Design Allows You to Express Your Personal Style
My first impression of the WATCH FIT is that it is incredibly lightweight with interchangeable leather straps that are super soft and comfortable against my wrist and do not feel restrictive like some other watches do on me. The watch comes in three trendy colours including mint green (not yet available in Canada), graphite black and a lovely Sakura pink which is the one I chose. What also caught my attention is the gorgeous 1.64” rectangle AMOLED display and 280 x 456 HD resolutions; which in other words means that the HUAWEI WATCH FIT delivers a visual experience much like other Huawei devices- one that is immersive, borderless and ultra-clear and wide viewing that can customize to your needs at any given day. Not to mention it has built-in GPS and incredibly long battery life which can last for 10 days and can support you with just a 5-minute charge for the whole day so really a perfect all-day companion.
Customization and Workout Modes
Personalization is very much a theme with the WATCH FIT and Huawei did a brilliant job in letting you do that! You can change the colourful watch-faces to suit your mood while functions like the weather, heart rate, battery life can be selected to your viewing habits. It also has 96 workout modes and animated private trainer to help you get the best workout during your lunch break for example. You can also consult the Huawei Life App which works with the HUAWEI WATCH FIT to monitor your health which can be found in the AppGallery or Petal Search Engines if it isn’t’ already on the phone. Currently, this watch will sync with any Android device, but the Huawei Life App is not yet available for IOS devices. The WATCH FIT is still compatible to work with all devices – including IOS.
So now that you have discovered more products from Huawei, I hope that you realized it is more than just a smartphone brand. Huawei just makes great devices in all areas and has one that will surely cater to you. The best thing about working with Huawei this year is really learning about the brand and all the products and how they all work together to make mine and your life easier.
