A Unique Urban Retreat Experience at the DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection Hotel® Vancouver

(This post was sponsored by the DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection Hotel ® but all opinions are my own)

This year definitely flew by so quickly that I can’t believe it’s almost the end of the year. Since August, I had non-stop events and work so when I got a chance to experience a lovely one-night staycation at the DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection Hotel®, I jumped at the opportunity to just relax, recharge and reconnect with each other. Much like a relationship, I love playing tourist in our city because it gives me a chance to reconnect with the city I love and there is no better place to do that than at the DOUGLAS.

The Story

Located within Parq Vancouver – a leading entertainment district and destination, featuring a state-of-the-art casino, seven award-winning restaurants and lounges, and two luxurious Marriott hotels – The DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection® is their boutique collection! Providing an utterly uncommon experience within the vibrant Parq Vancouver entertainment resort scene, the DOUGLAS indulges you with beautiful boutique amenities, sustainable designs such as a 30,000 sq ft roof top park and an unwavering attention to detail with every element crafted to tell a story – an extension of our awe-inspiring surroundings. True to its name, the DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection Hotel® pays homage to British Columbia’s extraordinary Douglas fir trees that have lined the banks of False Creek for thousands of years and laid the foundation for Vancouver’s economy.

The Hotel & Rooms

You are able to see and feel that apparent connection with nature the moment you enter the lobby. From the giant beam of Douglas fir design at the front desk, to the modern style and dark brown palette that sets the mood – the DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection Hotel ® accurately portrays the spirit of the Pacific Northwest. What I love about the hotel is that even though it is connected to the vibrant Parq Vancouver, it feels very separate and quieter while offering you the convenience of being within the resort like easy access to entertainment, restaurants and spa. Even though I have been to the DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection Hotel® many times for events and meals with friends and family, this is my first time as a hotel guest and I have to say I was really impressed by the warm, friendly and thoughtful nature of the staff at the concierge. At the front desk, there was barely a line-up but a lovely staff member came up to me immediately to see if I needed assistance and assured me that I am next to be checked in and taken care of. This attention to detail is absolutely wonderful and really illustrates the characteristics of what I envisioned in a luxury hotel.

At the DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection Hotel® you experience not only impeccable comfort and luxury but there are also little fun surprises along the way. As you step into the elevator, a psychedelic experience awaits you and really it’s the perfect time to snap a worthy shot for Instagram! When I entered our   room  with a comfy King-sized bed and a view facing B.C Place (can’t ask for a better view than that), I was greeted with a delicious chocolate welcome treat from the hotel. The design of the rooms very much echoes that of the lobby and the rest of the hotel with a modern and contemporary design, a dark brown moody wood color palette and even a ceiling that has an unfinished look that was purposely intended to give an industrial appeal.    The room is spacious but not like overwhelming so which is nice! We felt like it was a good amount of space to cozy up and lounge together in bed, catching up on Netflix and ordering their amazing room service:  our favourite thing to do for a lazy weekend! Speaking of room service, we ordered pasta this time (Bolognese and Carbonara Spaghetti) and I forgot how big their portion is and wasn’t able to finish one even though it was so delicious. Unless you are super hungry the pasta really feeds two! What is really unique about staying here (throughout the resort) is that they offer their famous fresh green juices on the menu which is super refreshing and gives a nice healthy boost to the system.

For me, a great bathroom is really important because I spent probably the most time there getting ready during the day and unwinding during the night. Furthermore as an influencer, I need a great space to create flat lays and for making videos for Instagram as well, so I was super excited when I saw a giant washroom with gorgeous white marble walls, floors and counters lined with Aesop products. I adore the rain shower feature which is so luxurious and relaxing after a long day. Unfortunately, the room didn’t come with a soaker tub but I didn’t feel like that took away from anything. Also, the washroom lights are auto which is it’s a great feature to save energy and just cool when you walk in and the lights auto turn on! Not only is the room beautiful, with a stunning marble bathroom, and energy efficient and sustainable features but I was also blessed with a gorgeous view of B.C Place! At night, the lights at B.C Place flashes different colors at different intervals, so it’s quite fun to watch and appreciate our gorgeous city!

Entertainment & Food

In speaking of B.C Place, the DOUGLAS is also adjacent to GM place another stadium for sporting, concerts and other big events and just minutes away from the Gastown, Yaletown, Chinatown and False Creek where you can paddle board, take an Aqua bus tour and visit Science World with the kids if you’re travelling with the entire family. At first, I didn’t think that the DOUGLAS was a family-friendly hotel but I actually saw many families with small kids at the concierge desk checking-in so next time I will surely bring Adelina for a family staycay! If you want to explore more of downtown, the DOUGLAS is just a few minutes’ walk to the Stadium Skytrain station and will gain you access to pretty much anywhere you want to go including downtown. If you are an adventurous type, you can even bike around False Creek or even head to the seawall in Stanley Park in our bike-friendly city. But of course, if you want to just stay within the hotel there is plenty of things to do! If you want to be fancy, dress up and head to a games night at the casino resort at Parq Vancouver or dine at many of their amazing restaurants, including The Victor for seafood, steaks and even sushi; and Honey Salt for brunch, which I have tried and absolutely adore their famous waffles. Then you can also head to the famous D6 Lounge and experience music, amazing cocktails and even a secret room to host parties and events.
